Owners and operators, Wayne and Joyce Holmgren came across this ‘diamond in the rough’ 21 years ago.

When they bought the resort, Wayne was certain it could not survive another year. But he had a vision of what could be, Joyce supported him while she was not so optimistic. They had many setbacks in the beginning. The purchase was barely complete when a fire ripped through the recreation center, leaving it at a total loss. Joyce recalls that scary day but says it could have been worse as the fire happened on one of the hot, dry days of summer. Years later they are still so grateful for the resources available to suppress the fire, they also appreciated the way the Village of Radium, local businesses and local people offered to help with the recovery.

The 14,000 square foot recreation center was rebuilt with an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, gym, racquetball court, lounges, games room, kitchen, and events room, which has hosted many events over the years, such as the performance by ‘Elvis’ when he came to town. The Holmgren’s are looking forward to hosting more events like this in the future. The biggest hit though is always the outdoor pool. Complimented by the ‘Snak Shak’, which the line up speaks for itself. Who doesn’t like a tasty treat while enjoying the pool on a hot summer’s day? 

Each year they do upgrades. In 2016/17, they put in a mini golf course which has been a big hit with guests of all ages. This year 2019/20 completing the renovations in the Vacation houses. The Holmgren family now have their eyes set on a new year and re-brand. 

Wayne and Joyce are now in their youthful 70’s, proudly stating that their children are also involved with the resort and have been from the start. The resort will be running under the Holmgren ownership for many more years. The family is not afraid of hard work and it shows with the beautiful landscaping and endless upgrades that continue each year. The peacefulness is felt throughout the park. Mr. Holmgren enjoys the hard work and has no intention of stopping anytime soon. When you ask them if they would do it all over again, they both answer without hesitation absolutely! They are very proud of what has been 21 years in the making. The Holmgren’s are now able to celebrate two decades in the business and enjoy the beautiful world-class resort they worked so hard to build.
